Labetxea is a rustic mountain house typical of the Navarra region (it dates back to the 17 th century) and is situated in the small village of Baraibar just walking distance from the Sierra de Aralar which belongs to the valle de Larraun, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The house has two floors. The ground floor has an open sitting room and dining area with wood burning stove, completely equipped kitchen, and a toilet.
On the first floor there are three double rooms, a large bathroom and a sitting-room.
Activities
As well as the rural house, we are specialised in excursions by horse in the Sierra de Aralar (Centro Hipico Aralar Zalditegia, 18 years experience). The area provides for all levels of excursions from beginners to expert riders!
In the village there is a pelota court, children´s park and church.
From the same village there is a beautiful excursion by horse or by foot that passes the village of Iribas , with a church (medieval, XII century) and reaches the source of the river Larraun which also gives the name to the valley.
Another walk is the via verde del Plazaola, the old route of the train that linked the villages with the province of Gipuzkoa.
One can also visit and walk in the ancient oak forest in Orgui or play golf close by. The Sierra de Aralar is magnificent for excursions.. There are huge beech forests, and higher up in the valley are the pastures where herds of cows, sheep and wild horses spend the summer.. The Sanctuary of San Miguel de Aralar (IX-XI) romanesque, can be found in the highest part of the Sierra and must be seen.
Just a few kilometres away are the museums of the famous Basque sculptors Eduardo Txillida (TXILLIDA LEKU) and Jorge Oteiza (FUNDACION JORGE OTEIZA).
Also close by are other museums of Ethnographic art and the house-museum of honey production.
For other all day excursion the Basque French area is worth visiting: San Juan de Luz, Biarritz, Bayona. Tolosa, where weekly fairs are held.. and Sebastian famously known for its beauty. And of course the Guggenhein museum in Bilbao (1.30 hours away)
