Los Picos de Tereñes

There is another type of tourism which is ideal for the most adventurous traveller. It involves participating in open-air activities where you can enjoy the many beauties of nature.

There are many companies in the area offering this type of service. Usually accompanied by a guide, you can spend a lovely day or several hours and be left with a memorable experience.

Do not forget that in high season it is advisable to book in advance.

Amongst the activities that are offered, you will find:

• etc.
• There are also many more activities that you can do on your own, such as hiking, climbing, cycling routes, surfing, etc…

Good food and drink is something which is guaranteed in Asturias. There are an endless number of cider bars or restaurants, so the only concern for the tourist is tasting the products of our lands.

Although we have many different products, we can highlight the “fabada” (Asturian beans) and cheese. The variety of cheeses is endless.. The most well-known is Cabrales, but there are many more that the traveller must taste such as Beyos, Vidiago, Pria, La Peral, Casin, Afuega´l Pitu, etc.. etc.

With regards to its drinks, cider is without a doubt the star product. Asturias abounds in apple trees and it is with these that we produce the cider. Once the apples are collected, generally at the end of September, the different types are combined which will give the quality and personality of the cider for each particular place. It is chopped up and the result is left to ferment. After several months a drink is obtained which is an emblem and almost a religion for the inhabitants of Asturias.

Festivals:

• In Tereñes
• La Santina: The chapel in Tereñes is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, who the local folk call La Santina, and is celebrated on August 5th. Although some years the date is moved so that it does not coincide with the festival of Las Piraguas (the International Festival Canoeing down the River Sella). The programme includes a mass in honour of the Virgin Mary followed by the traditional bidding for bouquets, concerts by traditional pipers and the lively outdoor musical celebrations..
• La Fiesta del Pez is one of the most original to be found in the festive calendar of Asturias; the inhabitants of Tereñes go down to the Pedral in the village with their fishing rods to spend a lovely day fishing together.
  Right at the end of the day, they prepare a feast with everything they have caught, This festival is not held on any specific day, although it is always in the month of August.

• The International Canoeing Festival down the River Sella. A festival which has been declared of International Tourism Interest (on the first Saturday in August)
