Organic farming is the cultivation of the land respecting the ground, the animals and the plants, without any chemicals or manufactured seeds, so as to produce healthy and tasty seasonal food
The house has its own 2,500 square meters vegetable garden, registered in the Regulatory Council of Organic Farming of Galicia. This garden produces the vegetables we eat, and also sell to individual customers

The owner´s comments
We´re in the Ribeira Sacra (the Holy Bank of the Sil River), in the Spanish province of Ourense, near the village of Parada do Sil. The house is the former home of the priest.
The house is an old Rectory, built with stone and chesnut wood. It´s been restored sympathetically and comfortably, with principles of environmentally friendly construction for insulation and varnishes, with old wood furniture. You will enjoy waking up with sounds and smells of animals and countryside.
We have 3 available double rooms for guests, two of them with a shared bathroom. This is an option if you are travelling with your family, and it´s interesting because of the low price and the high quality of theese rooms.. We have another room with private bathroom, all three with 1,35 m beds, and, of course, heating.
The little size of our lodging let us time to take care of every detail, and to serve in the dining-room home-made organic food, as well as wine and woodfired oven bread, a quality level that is only possible on a small scale. You can have all meals at the house. We offer varied menus (including vegetarian), wich include seasonal vegetables freshy picked from the garden, and organic meats such lamb or beef.
We enjoy our job. You will enjoy your holidays with us
Activities
Marked walking tracks, from whom you can enjoy Nature and etnographics aspects of the region
You can also rent a mountain bike for your rides
If you don´t want to walk/drive, or you already know the area, you can also stay at Chandrexa and look at the day-to-day live in a galician organic farm. This is strongly influenced by the seasons:
in winter: vine stocks and chestnuts are trimmed off, pigs are slaughtered in some houses of the area, wine is made, and brandies are distilled, we fabricate soap...
in february: we begin the working on the land to begin the sowing in March
in spring: the land is ploughed to sow potatoes and, in May, corn and summer vegetables, little hens are born, vine stocks and chestnut trees blossom
summer: there are many vegetables to pick, to pick medicinal and aromatic plants, we take the honey from the beehives...
fall: it begins with the grape harvest, people pick chestnuts, an important fruit for all the surrounding area.. Other than the chestnuts, the woods give us mushrooms
Interesting Places
Reitoral de Chandrexa is set in an unspoilt contryside by the river Sil canyon. Its situation at the heart of the Riberira Sacra ("Sacred Riverside"), an unknown area, with stunning lanscapes, monasteries and famous wines, is an ideal base for you to explore the region
