The owner's comments
A warm welcome awaits you in my old village house. Full of charm and character, with timbered ceilings, traditional French furniture, individually decorated in Mediterranean colours. Relax in the large lounge with its open fireplace on cooler evenings, or in the perfumed walled garden, a haven of peace after a busy day.

13 kms south of Carcassonne, situated in the centre of Verzeille, a small wine village, in the foothills of the Courbieres in the heart of Pays Cathare, with its beautiful chateaux, medieval villages and ancient abbeys. As a historian and lover of art I can advise you on exploring the history, culture an beautiful landscape of this fascinating region

Activities
  • Cultural, historic and art holidays can be arranged for groups, including the cathare trail, the da vinci code, midi experience and art inspiration and appreciation.
  • Open air activities include walking, cycling, horseriding, thermal baths, golf, water sports, with massage in the village.
  • Boules and pingpong are available to play petanque in the adjacent park, with play facilities for children in the village.
  • For 360 nights you can be assured of peaceful slumbers. But being so close to spain this is a land of festivals and celebrations and throughout the year there are always opportunities to have fun, dance, make music and generally be a bit silly!
  • From the limoux carnival in january to april, truffle, wine, produce, music and medieval festivals, spanish feries too with bull fighting. The wine harvest begins in september when the grapes followed in october to november by photo/painting opportunities as the surroundings hills are ablaze with colour, as the vineyards turn red, yellow and orange.
Interesting Places
  • Just 14 kms from the fabulous cite of carcassonne and canal du midi ... Unesco heritage sites.
  • Ideally situated to explore the cathare history through its heritage of mountain top chateaux, abbeys and medieval villages.
  • Visit Rennes le Chateau, inspiration for the da vinci code and many other books.
  • There´s so much to see within 1 hour - stunning unspoilt landscape, gorges, wild rolling hills, vineyards, markets.
  • Visit vineyards and try the rich red wines, the famous bubbly white blanquette de limoux. And speciality products of the region.
  • Or drive to the coast in 40 minutes, 1 hour to the high pyrenees, 2 hours to andorra and spain.

5.00  Superb, Informative Stay, by: Tom & Lionel, South Africa  -  usr308866,  13/Sep/2008
Jan is a superb, knowledgeable hostess. With her History of Art degree, she makes the history of the area come alive - particularly the Cathar period and castles. She advised us from the time that we booked, right through our stay. Her bookcase of pamphlets of the region is formidable! If you want more than a B+B, this is your destination!

  5.00  Lovely B&B, by: Linda and Christian Martin  -  usr291385,  22/Aug/2008
We stayed 5 nights with Jan. We felt very welcome when we arrived to the lovely house. The room we stayed in was spacious, clean and delightfully decorated.. The breakfast each morning was delicious, warm croissants, coffee, fruit...The surrounding area is beautiful with plenty to do and see. The best day was when we rented bikes and just cycled around getting lost but enjoying every minute.. We will be back.

What a beautiful and relaxing place to stay! Spacious, clean rooms, lovely lounge to sit and read, catching up on days gone by or getting some great travel, sightseeing, art and food tips from our host, Jan. We bought great wine (at a very good price) just around the corner from the house! My husband had his birthday and Jan made us a wonderful dinner! That was so special and kind of her!! After a long day walking and sightseeing in Carcassonne, coming back to Colours of Pays Cathare just re ... [ more

A lovely old French house in a small rural village which is surrounded by fantastic scenery. Plenty of fascinating places to visit in the locality. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable.. The decor is delightful: beautiful mellow colours sympathetic to the style and age of the house.. Jan creates a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and is an excellent cook! She knows the area well, and is very helpful in recommending places to visit depending on the interests of the visitor.
