Interesting Places
The house is located close to places of geographical, cultural and historical interest, catering for all kinds of tourism: beach, mountains, urban,... Here are a few examples:
Bilbao: The capital of Bizkaia has changed in just 20 years from being a post-industrial decadent city to becoming a referent in the world of art, culture and the avant-garde.. The Guggenheim Museum and the Palacio Euskalduna are the greatest exponents of the new era.. It is also well worth enjoying the everyday city of Bilbao, wandering around the stately houses on the Gran Vía, the small traditional houses in the Old Part or Casco Viejo and Bilbao la Vieja and, of course, taste the many tapas in the Plaza Nueva and the Siete Calles.
Gernika: Famous for the bombing in 1937, Gernika stands out as being the symbol of peace and freedom, with recognition by the Unesco in 2002-2003. You must visit the mythical Gernika Tree, the Assembly House and the Museum of Peace.
The Santimamiñe Games and the Oma Forest: In the village of Kortezubi, just 10 km from Gernika, towards Lekeitio, we find one of the most famous caves in Euskadi because of its many examples of prehistoric art. The Oma Forest, next to the caves, is a pine forest which has been painted by the artist Agustín Ibarrola.
The Urdaibai Nature Reserve: One of the places with the greatest ecological value in the whole of the Basque Country. In 1984, the UNESCO awarded it the title of a Biosphere Reserve because of the diversity of species found in its wetlands. It covers the municipalities of Mundaka and Pedernales among others and is set in an area where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Basque country.
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe: This belongs to Bermeo but it is right next to Bakio, just 10 minutes away by car from Arrieta. It is one of the most spectacular sights in Bizkaia: a small island which has become a peninsular after the building of a bridge, and which has a chapel dating back to the 9th century. >From here, you get a lovely view of the magnificent coastline.
Elantxobe and Lekeitio: These are small traditional fishing villages which are full of charm. Elantxobe stands out for it is uniqueness: a small village whose houses have been built on the slopes of the mountain surrounding the port.
Beaches: The nearest beaches to Arrieta are Bakio and Sopelana, between 10 and 15 minutes away. In less than half an hour away by car, you can visit some of the most popular and beautiful beaches on the Costa Vizcaína, such as Laida and Laga, in the area of Urdaibai.
