Casa Mari Cruz is a house of the half of the 19th century; it was restored and arranged as a rural house 10 years ago. Five generations have taken care of it warming its thick stone walls and looking after the cattle. The inhabitants of this land have created the quiet and nice landscape of the Valle de Arce (maple valley).. However, we have been the ones who have replaced the family for the last three years taking charge of their house and taking over this business which we are going to run the best as we can. This is a project that we have begun without a second thought and we feel more and more excited about it.
As I was saying, this house has experienced several alterations and, nowadays, it has the following layout: on the second floor, you will find the area which has been aimed at the travellers' rest. There is the attic with three double rooms, bathroom, terrace and a lounge with television set, DVD and PlayStation, fireplace, some information about this area, magazines We are living on the first floor.. On the ground floor, you can see the dining room with a music corner where you will listen to any type of music (CD collection) and read (some books and assorted magazines). There are 3 daily newspapers.. On the same floor, you will see the other bathroom, our dining room and kitchen.
This is a small but warm and friendly house. Its porch is the ideal place for summer time. Informal gatherings, reading or just listening to the silence (as Olga says). We are located right in the mountain, at the end of this town, very near the former washing place, a special corner, isn't it, MªPaz?
We tend some hens, goats, two young female lambs (the last newborns) and Luna, Tal and Ban (our cats), Pirata and Sansón (our dogs) and the trout.
We cultivate our two vegetable gardens in an environment-friendly way and we use their country produce to make our meals.
Activities
- You can help us with the housework: feeding our animals (cats, dogs, hens, goats, lambs and trout), growing the crops, gathering firewood, keeping the garden in good condition
- We have already begun to get some local paths ready (we have prepared three of them) together with the inhabitants of Casa Rural Parriola (Parriola Rural House).
- We can lend you some mountain bikes (we have got 4), although you will have to be very careful as this land is quite sloping, and some snowshoes.
-We can also give you some information about the activities that are offered in this area depending on the different seasons: rides on horseback, trekking, guided visits, exhibitions, craft fairs, local fiestas, rural sports
-If you prefer it, we can organize some routes for you to make your trips (with maps and information about this area).
Interesting Places
Arce is a nearly virgin country, a very peaceful place. This landscape is really impressive, especially in autumn.. When you will be here, you will have the chance of visiting the small villages (very rural ones) with artistic buildings of the past (churches, raised granaries, chapels and palaces) and sharing the time with their inhabitants who are always available to talk. In addition, you will be able to walk through beechwoods and oakwoods, going up the rivers Irati and Urrobi (trout ones) looking for a shade where to have a picnic and watch some vultures, eagles and other birds of prey.
- Uriz, a medieval-looking town;
- The Hórreo de Lusarreta (raised granary) of the 16th century; declared as a building of cultural interest;
- The Romanesque chapel in Arce;
- Saragüeta, Arrieta, Lusarreta and Villanueva; these were some settings of the last film by Montxo Armendáriz "Silencio Roto" (Broken Silence);
- The foces in Txintxurrinea, Gaztelu and Iñarbe; this last one is a protected open space;
- The suspension bridges over the river Irati
From Pamplona, you have to look for the exit towards Francia (France). Next, take the A road N-150 in the direction of Aoiz. There are about 15-20 minutes of good road (25 kilometres).
- Once in Aoiz, when you get to the roundabout before going into the town, turn left taking the A road N-172 towards Burguete-Nagore
- From Aoiz to Nagore, there are about 10 minutes and you will go through two tunnels. Good road.
- From Nagore (you do not have to go into the town) as far as Villanueva, there are another 10 minutes (local road with a lot of bends).
- Once in Villanueva, you will get to a small square where you will see the main wall and a watering place.
- Turn left; when you finish the row of houses, turn right and drive along a wide concrete track with a fair amount of holes.
- About 100 metres away and where the track is finished, you will find our house; it is the last one.
The house was lovely, the hosts friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area.. Breakfast well worth the price and dinner likewise. Peaceful, homely and a great place to explore the nearby areas for walking, culture, etc. Thanks to Luismi and Alicia.. Only spanish spoken

La verdad es que nunca mejor dicho, hemos estado como en casa. Hemos ido con un niño de dos años y medio y otro de 15 meses, y se lo han pasado de maravilla, no les ha faltado de nada, y a nosotros tampoco. Alicia y Luismi tienen muchisisisima paciencia con los niños, nos hemos juntado 12 niños en la casa, una barbaridad, y todos jugaban juntos e iban a dar de comer a los animales y se lo pasaban de coña! Y no será la última! Porque prometemos volver muy pronto el grupo formado por Rubén, Rodri, Espe y Julio, Pablo, Mayte y Jesús. Al igual que también lo harán nuestros amigos Rodrigo, Rocío, Mª Ángeles y Pedro, que han quedado encantados con la experiencia.
Y es que la estancia en esta casa rural es una maravilla, tanto por el entorno como, sobre todo, por el trato humano que recibimos los huéspedes por parte de Noé, Ada, Alicia y Luismi, que nos hacen sentir como en nuestra propia casa.

Un pueblo con encanto rodeado de naturaleza que habla a cada momento: sonidos y vistas que nos llevamos muy adentro, deseando volver a sentirlos.Casa muy acogedora, en un entorno privilegiado, los dueños hacen que te sientas muy agusto desde el primer momento.Las excursiones recomendadas fueron todo un acierto: Irati es especial, mágica, no dejéis de sentir todo lo que transmite a cada uno de los sentidos...

Somos un grupo de 7 personas mas un niño, y este año ha sido la tercera vez que nos hemos alojado en Agroturismo Maricruz, los dos primeros años en Casa Maricruz y este ultimo en Casa Marcos.
