The tourism rural center "El Urogallo" is situated the Murias de Paredes in Omaña area in the Cantabric mountains, in the nort of the province of León. Omaña area is Biosphere Reserve (Man and Biosphere Program- Unesco)
This area present an excellent conservation of forest and it has a excellent wildlife: capercaille, brown bear, wolf, great variety of birds and many species of Cantabrian wildlife.
El Urogallo It is built in a 19th century traditional stone house with slate roof, typical of the Omana region.
The house, built on three levels has 24 beds. On the ground floor there is a reception area, restaurant and lounge with an open fire. On the first floor there are four double rooms and a quadruple room, all with en-suite bathroom. On the second floor there is a triple bedroom and a separate apartment that sleeps six in two separate bedrooms and has a separate sitting room and en-suite bathroom. All the bedrooms have views to the valley, the river Omana and a beech wood.
The house is surrounded by a landscaped garden with trees and bushes typical of this region. The house has gas central heating and it is equipped with tv, video, and a hi-fi.. The restaurant, for guests only, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.. Lunches and dinners need to be booked in advance. The house can also be booked for meetings and social events.. Animals are welcome in the garden although not in the building.
The Omana region offers the traveler plenty of places to visit, walks in the
woods, walks along the rivers and journeys to different villages where you
can enjoy a great variety of culture and nature. This region has been
declared a national reserve.
If you enjoy walking, there are trekking routes, such as the "Fuente de
Omana" or the "Ribera de Omana". There are also guided walks in the summer
months for all levels of fitness, such as ´La Ruta de las Zancas´ in the
region of La Omanuela and ´El Oro de Roma´ in the region of Las Omanas.
More advanced mountaneers can walk up several peaks in the area: el
Tambaron, el Nevadin, el Catoute...all of them over 2000 metres high.
In the region of La Omanuela and El Castillo there are fluvial beaches
suitable for swimming.
The river Omana offers two trout seasons and a catch and release season. The
rest of the river is a permit fishing area.
El Vivero waterfall and Los Bayos waterfall with their natural richness and
its acceptable preservation state make them ideal for bird watching and
flora and fauna watching.
Murias de Paredes is ideally situated for visits to the Omana region and
other surrounding areas.
Leitariegos ski resort is 29 km away from the house. In winter it is an
ideal place to start practicing this sport. From there you can do routes
with snow shoes and you will be able to taste a delicious traditional cofee
in an igloo!
You can also do routes on horses to the valleys of Babia and Laciana, which
are 15 kms away from Murias.
You can practice water sports in Villablino and Luna.
The neighbouring regions of Luna, Babia and Laciana, together with Omana,
have also been nominated as a national reserve.
You can walk up to Pena Ubina in Babia, 2417 metres high, one of the most
emblematic peaks of the Cantabrian mountains.
The natural park of Somiedo in Asturias, with its three famous lakes is only
36 kms away.
Valle del oso, in Trubia, also in Asturias, with the Senda del Oso, is ideal
for walks or bike rides. It is a walk built upon a disused railway track.
If you fancy a longer trip you can go to Ponferrada and El Bierzo, where you
will find las Medulas - old roman gold mines - that have been declared Heritage of Humanity. They are 75 km away.
70 kms away you can find Astorga, built more than 2 millenniums ago and one
of the first roman settlements in Spain. Around there you can visit a lot of
traditional villages. Castrigo de los Polvazares o Santiagomillas are very
charismatic and really worth a visit.
Valporquero cave, 70 kms away, is the largest karstic cave in Spain.
Leon, the capital of the region is also 70 km away.

Murias de Paredes strategic position gives fine views of some of the
most spectacular scenery in Northern Spain and will only add to
the visitors pleasure. The village is surrounded by silver birch
forest, habitat of the Capercaille.
In the valleys continues traditional use of the land with lush green pastures and market gardens.

Nuestra experiencia en la casa no fue positiva a pesar de tener reservadas las cenas. Para empezar, cuando llegamos la casa estaba fría, y así continuó toda la noche. Estaba bastante sucia y una noche se llenó todo el cuarto de baño de hormigas (cientos de ellas). El "desayuno buffet" era poco variado (unas tostadas que nos teníamos que hacer nosotros, un poco de jamón y unas magdalenas) y las cenas tampoco eran muy abundantes. Owner’s reply Solo voy a decir tres cosas: yo ni tan siquiera fumo. Y las hormigas. Si un día no están y aparecen de repente una noche, por lo que sea, que puedo hacer? Pues cuando me avisaron eché insecticida y las limpié. Es algo inevitable, que en una casa de piedra, de repente salga un hormiguero. Y no aparecieron más.
Y si es buffett, es normal que las tostadas se las haga cada uno. Para eso es un buffett, para que cada uno llegue y coja lo que quiera. Leche, cafe, colacao, zumo, jamón, madal... more

Aconsejo este Centro de Turismo Rural por su paisaje, el entorno, la comarca, sus gentes, la gastronomía,...Agradezco a Olga la paciencia que demostro al esperarnos hasta las 2 de la madrugada la noche que llegamos, su amabilidad y el buen trato. No me olvido de esos desayunos que preparabas con la mermelada de tomate casera y el jamón serrano y eso que ninguno de nosotros (6 adultos y 2 niñas) habíamos cenado.

El entorno natural es precioso sin embargo nuestra experiencia en este alojamiento no fue positiva.
La habitación era pequeña y había que estar permanentemente agachado para no golpearse con las vigas, al tratarse de una buhardilla, y nos cobró 65euros aunque en su web el precio de la HD + supletoria es de 60euros. Decidimos pasar 3 noches el matrimonio con un niño de 3 años y un bebé de 5 meses y, desde el momento en que renunciamos a la cena (a 12euros por cabeza) comenzamos a observar un tra

Hemos pasado tres dias estupendos en esta encantadora casa rural. El paraje es precioso, rodeado de prados y muy tranquilo. En la casa nos han tratado de maravilla, tanto Olga (atentisima) como sus niños, que hicieron de "guias" y nos hicieron sentir como en casa. La habitacion donde nos alojabamos (la cuadruple) es perfecta para un matrimonio con niños, espaciosa y con una vistas magnificas. Nuestros niños han disfrutado de lo lindo, y sin duda, repetiremos.

El alojamiento es precioso, con un trabajo de restauración que respeta muchas de las características originales del edificio, con lo que lo convierte en un verdadero viaje al pasado.
La comida en el es al estilo de la zona disfrutando asi de otro aspecto mas de las costumbres y cultura del lugar.
Los paisajes de cuento, y eso que nuestra estancia no se realizó en la mejor época.
Y lo mejor de todo la compañia de Olga que con sus atenciones nos hizo el mejor regalo, su amistad.
