Interesting Places
Santa Cruz, point of departure
Santa Cruz is located in a privileged setting within the territory of La Jacetania. This locality is an ideal central point for access to other municipalities and regional enclaves of great historical, patrimonial, natural and cultural value.
Nestled at the base of the San Juan de la Peña monastery, one of the most emblematic monuments not only in La Jacetania but of all Aragon, Santa Cruz provides both a forestial road habitually used by vehicles or yet another route to arrive at an area that was the origin of the Kingdom of Aragón and that is declared a National Monument, a National & Protected Space, a Natural Monument and Cultural Park.
From the surroundings of the Santa Maria church derives a footpath that ascends between the abundant vegetation of this mountain range to the Antiguo Monasterio (Old Monastery).
Jaca, capital of the territory
Santa Cruz de la Serós is located 14 km. from Jaca. In addition to being the capital of La Jacetania, Jaca offers the largest commercial, cultural, activities of leisure and other services in the territory. The romanesque cathedral and the Ciudadela are two of the monuments most representative of the historical past of this pyrenean region.
To get to Jaca take the N-240 or for a more scenic route take the C-125. Named the ‘carretera de Oroel’, this old windy forestial road crosses along the southern base of the mountain range of Oroel. This route provides access to quaint villages that preserve the traditional flavour of rural life; such as Botaya, a small village with monuments of historical interest.
To get to Santa Cruz de la Serós from Jaca, take the N-330 direction Pamplona.. Once approximately 10 km outside of Jaca, follow the road signs indicating Santa Cruz; the A-1603 will lead you to this town.
Conversely, if traveling from Pamplona, follow the N-240 until you reach the crossroads of Puente la Reina de Jaca and take the N-330 direction Jaca. The exit to Santa Cruz is located after the town of Santa Cilia.
Santa Cruz de la Serós is a town with enchantment that is emphasized by its two romanesque churches; Santa María and San Caprasio. Both of which are from the XI century and are situation at the base of the San Juan de la Peña mountain range.
