The owner´s comments
The guest-house is situated in the regional park of the GREDOS´ mountain ridge, which provides microclimate of mild temperature.
The integration of the architecture with the landscape makes the guest-house unique. It provides all the amenities of our times in a mountain area that has remained unchanged through the times
The guest-house is on a farm situated in the municipality of El Hornillo, a very special and productive area. In the past, the first inhabitants settled on the banks of the river, clearing the land mainly for growing their food. At the time, the land was used in the growing of vegetables and herbs and later used principally to provide grass for cattle. Now, for more than 30 years, beautiful fruit trees have been planted. In this way, the people from this area have been reforming and changing the landscape to fill their needs and economic interests while maintaining the local tranquility and beauty.
Interesting Places
El Hornillo:
- This town is situated at less than one mile from the guesthouse. It has an extraordinary free of charge natural swimming pool and pool of water for your enjoyment.
Their traditional celebrations are on April 25th, on December 27th (the Feast of Saint John) and on August 15th, the Cherry Blossom Festival.
- Two other charming towns, El Arenal and Guisando are less than 2 and 4 miles away.
- These three towns are of quite historic similarity thanks to their situation, built on the south side of the Gredos Ridge. Their traditional homes are built with stone, adobo bricks and wood in a setting of steep streets and alleys giving them a very special atmosphere.. The people are merry and hospitable..
On festive days, they dress up to the hilt.
Arenas de San Pedro, this beautiful village is only 3 miles away. Among its historical sites are:
- Triste Condesa Castle, El Palacio del Infante Don Luis de Borbon (brother of Charles the 3rd). The parish of "Nuestra Senora Del Pilar" in gothic style.. and The Sanctuary of San Pedro de Alcantara.
- At 3km.(2 miles) from Arena, we find Ramacastanas con las Cuevas del Aguila (the Eagle´s Caves) magnificent "grotto" with stalactites and stalagmites.
La Calzada Romana (the Roman Road) at Puerto del Pico is very well preserved. From its highest point we can enjoy a panoramic view of "Villas del Valle" and the ruins of the "Castro Celta" in "El Raso" from the 2nd century BC. There is more information available for our customers.

Our stay was the best in Spain. The rooms were immaculate, the owner friendly, warm, charming and a great cook.. The meals were generous, delicious, and inexpensive compared to other casa rurals in Spain.. The area was silent except for calling Tawny Owls.. For birders, the pines at Hornillo are productive, Puerto la Pico is a half hour distant, and La Plataforma is only an hour away.
