What can I say – we approached the hotel through a valley like a small version of the grand canyon, with eagles circling overhead and forests on the valley floor. We where not expecting such a beautiful mountainous region so close to the ferry at Santander.
The hotel is set in a green valley with a picturesque village opposite; if you walk alongside the fast flowing river you pass through pretty woodlands with mountains rising high either side.
The young couple who run the hotel could not be more friendly, and are clearly very proud of there achievements – the double decker rooms were a delight, and going to bed with the sound of the river was magical.
The food, both dinner and breakfast where cooked fresh with lots of fresh local ingredients. The many courses where of the highest quality. I travel a lot on business and have never stayed anywhere as good as this. My children, normally fussy eaters, loved the food nearly as much as the adults.
Javier the owner tells me that he has many English guests who stay just the one night as they are close to the ferry at Santander. This is a real shame as the area and the hotel justify a longer stay.
