The Cercado de Arriba is a house situated in one of the most picturesque villages of the Aracena Mountains and Aroche Peaks Natural Park:
Cortelazor.. The house has 7 apartments, sleeping 2/4 people in each, 2 in double rooms and 2 in the sofa bed in the lounge, with a complete bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, television, radio and log fire which will give you the feeling of the mountains, all this with the magnificent scenery from any of the apartments that will make your stay an unforgettable one.
The location of this village, with its 320 inhabitants, is enviable as it is situated in the geographical centre of the natural park, which has been recently declared a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. Villages like Aracena, Jabugo, Fuenteheridos, are less than 10 minutes away by car although there is the possibility of doing all these routes on foot or on horseback along the different paths and "royal routes" that the mountain range has to offer. One must not forget that we are in the natural park that has the most kilometres of routes in the whole of Spain, and that most of these are of medium to low difficulty, ideal for all the family.
The scenery that you can observe from the houses spreads out over more than 40 km and covers all the path of the Huelva river and is overlooked by the village of Cortelazor. Both by day and night you will have a picture postcard everywhere you look.
Activities
Our most important tradition is the "Slaughter of the Iberian Pig "pata negra". Visit this mountain range activity which is carried out at the hands of expert slaughtermen and the locals. They will explain step by step the whole ancestral ritual: The traditional dish "migas", mountain stew, . the origin of the black leg salted ham.
We will present you with the shoulder meat and the jam that come from the slaughter.
It is all the authentic "pata negra" (black leg salted ham).
Horse riding routes 15 minutes away
Trekking
Mushroom collecting
We organize all kinds of Adventure activities through a company that has an outstanding and professional background. Environmental education courses, cultural routes around the park, night star and planet observatory sessions.
Interesting Places
The small village of Cortelazor surprises everyone for its hidden treasures and which is almost untouched, it is strange to find an art museum in such a small village, but here, there is one.
Pepe will be delighted to show you around the museum with its wooden utensils which he himself makes by hand and already has more than a thousand pieces.
The thousand-year-old elm tree, a meeting and discussion spot for the locals before the Town Hall was built.
The Remedios Church (1565)
The Charco Malo Route is a waterfall housing the last of the mountain wolves as well as the occasional otter. This small lake belongs to the La Guijarra stream where you can enjoy the typical forests of the riverbanks, poplars, alders and oleanders.
Another place to visit is the recreation area near La Coronada Chapel. Here there are tables and barbecues surrounded by a beautiful forest that follows the Uerba River. This stretch of river has a series of dikes providing an ideal spot for swimming or relaxing.
Also, all the mountain villages are close by, Aracena, Jabugo, Fuenteheridos, Galaroza...
