This a wonderful find. Nestled in the Cantabrian hills, its a real escape from it all but within half an hour, you're in santander with lovely beaches (somo) and there's even nicer isolated ones nearby. The country side reminded me of New Zealand with beautiful hills and greenery all around. The house is great, newly decorated in Spanish style (like the house you always dreamt of building), and the owners are lovely people. In the house, there's a cool games room and tv/dvd, etc but there's lots to do, hillwalking, cycling (they have bikes there) etc. Just sitting outside with a glass of wine is the nicest part (and just listening to the silence !) and there's a full kitchen for cooking, etc. Try the local sobaos for breakfast. We haven't any but it would be great for kids and so safe but ideal for a romantic break too.The little village is beautiful down below and you really feel you're in the real Spain again but staying in luxury. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending here to anybody [ less]

A great place for a family gathering, 17 members of our Irish family stayed here in Aug 2008 (9 adults, 8 children).
We really enjoyed the beautiful setting, the peace and the rural way of life. There is plenty of room and comfort both in the common areas and the bedrooms. All the bedrooms are truly en-suite with plenty of hot water and good showers. There are many walks both long and short to take just on the roads around - there are some interesting hiking trails too, though we did not explore (too many v young and old people in our party).
On the area for improvement, the kitchen is a little dark and underequipped (but we still produced evening meal for 17 every day without a problem). Also the tranquility and great views come at a price of remoteness - it is about 30 minutes by car or bus (3 times per day !) to the nearest substantial town of Ramales.
We greatly enjoyed our Spanish Adventure in Posada La Almadrena ! [ less]

we thought this was a super place... comfortable, stylish and with a warm welcome from the owners who have lavished love and money to make it an oasis for weary city folk. The building blends the original rustic style with modern details such as excellent bathrooms. The location is in a quiet rural setting with views over field, woods and hills but only a few minutes from Comillas and the coast with Santillana & Altamira at about 15km. Sisa cooks the most delcious meals and there is really no reason to seek out an alternative restaurant. I would recommend it highly to anyone wanting superior accomodation at a reasonable price. "The best holidays we ever spend " was the comment of our son after a few days at the Posada Sierra de Ibio: Thanks to Estalas and Javiers hospitality we had a really great time. A voluminous breakfast , and a nice relaxing diner in a very family friendly ambiance ( our kids were treated like kings, even pizza and pasta were made specially for them , after eating they were playing savely outside and we could finish our bottle of wine )were one thing. The nicely decorated posada was another, rooms were comfortable and individually designed. The place is best situated to discover the area and the beaches. Estala provides all the info to find the right palces to see in Cantabria. Really a place to come again. [ less]

We stayed at the 'Hosteria El Pomar' for a week in the first of July.
Two adults and a 14 year old daughter.
The Hotel is indeed very well situated, nice environment with a lot of nice an interesting places in the neighborhood. (if you're motorized).
We found the room too tiny for the three of us (even for two persons there wouldn't be much space left)
People were very friendly. Pitty they didn't understand a single english word (Although they mentioned 'English spoken' on their Website) We didn't speak Spanish neither, so communications were very vivid.
Food was rather basic and seems to be oriented to children (Of which there were a lot during our stay).
We got a little surprise when leaving the hotel. Payment was only accepted in cash. (Later on, I searched their website for a statement that indicates this. I didn't find one) [ less]

We can find no fault with appearance, setting or physical accomodations. However,Two items necessary: 1) Manners. 2) A pencil. Suggestions: A business requiring reservations is required to write them down. And, we suggest a hospitality business should hire someone who can pretend hospitality. If guests are resented for showing up, or for being tourists, why have a posada? [ less]
