The owner´s comments
Casa Rural Teo is situated in the highest part of Huérmeda, a small mountain village within the municipality of Calatayud, on the banks of the River Jalón, and at the gateway to the winding ox-bows of the river Jalón, at the foot of the ruins of the Roman town Bílbilis. Casa Teo was built in 1918, renovated and underwent an extention in 1994, with all modern-day comforts.

It has a lounge and fireplace, a reading and games room, a restaurant where you can taste of wide variety of regional and international dishes, rooms with en-suite bathrooms, terraces, a recreational area with barbecues and garden games, and a shared swimming pool.

Interesting Places
  • Situated in the highest part of Huérmeda, a small village on the banks of the River Jalón in the Vicor Mountains, and which belongs to the municipality of Calatayud, only 5 km from the old Moorish quarters and a centre of Calatayud. This is the main tourist area par excellence with a variety of monuments such as the ruins of the 8th-century Calat-Ayud Castle (A fortified complex made up of five walled castles), the Santa María la Mayor Collegiate Church with its 10th century octogonal mudejar tower, the 17th-century Santo Sepulcro Church, the 12th century San Pedro de los Francos; and many more.
  • You can also combine the peace and quiet of the lovely walks through the old part of town with other interesting places such as the Judería (Jewish Quarter), Moreira or the aforementioned fortress. It is also worthwhile pointing out that the accommodation is located only 2 km from the Roman archaeological settlement and of Celtiberian origin called the “Ruins of Bilbilis”, and only 300 m from the famous “San Paterno Chapel”, the patron saint of the village and the place for the local festival at the end of September, which is very popular in the region.
  • In the surrounding area, we have such famous places as the Monasterio de Piedra Nature Reserve, a magnificent creation of the small River Piedra in Nuèvalos, 27 km away. To the south; Daroca just 42 km away, on the banks of the River Jiloca, with its numerous monuments, which still preserve the Oriental hallmark of the ancient Kalat-Daruca; Maluenda is really interesting and is just 18km to the south.. Cervera de la Cañada 10 km away to the Northeast (The Gothic -Mudèjar Church of de Santa Tecla).
  • On the road from Huérmeda to Embid de la Ribera (both districts of Calatayud ), we find Las Hoces del Jalón, with its very abrupt scenery, endless cuttings in the rock, which are home to an important number of rupicola birds. It has therefore been declared "a Special Protection Area for Birdlife " where we find the Butroneras with over one hundred Vultures.
  • The Comunidad de Calatayud has a large number of thermal springs, with seven of the eleven spas that exist today in Aragón, and centred in three locations, Jaraba, Alhama de Aragón and Paracuellos de Jiloca (whose spa is just 10 km from Huérmeda).
  • These spas provide 65 percent of the total Aragon thermal baths business and form a true pillar in the region’s tourist industry.

  • The ruins of the Roman settlement of Bílbilis is just 30 minutes away on foot. The site can always be visited as it is not fenced off.. The reception centre, where you can find a model of the forum and the temple, the history of the settlement and a small souvenir shop can be visited in the months of July and August.

The Roman town of Bílbilis like many other provincial towns, was the undisputed regional centre for the political, administrative, financial and social scene, since it acquired this character during the time of Augustus. It became the social and cultural Mecca, the ideal place to develop certain activities which were reserved, because of their nature, to the non developed indigenous centres. These towns progressed rapidly, finally standing out from the rest. You can visit the forum, the theatre, the baths, the walls, etc.

How to get there ?

[ more
