The owner´s comments
Opened since 1995, "Aloe-vera" house has been restored by Lola Viúdez, its owner, who inherited it from her grandmother. Lola worked in Catalonia, but she decided to go to live in the countryside and restore her farmhouse which was practically neglected. In order to restore it, she made use of alternative construction techniques which were not aggressive with the environment. The result cannot be better: everything has been made with good taste and simply..
This open region with wide and bright skies can be gratifying for country and open-air lovers. Landscapes are wild and bare; although they are really arid, they have some vegetation and hidden springs. This land is full of scarps, although they are also lined with small water meadows where you can see white farmhouses that are surrounded by esparto grass, broom and prickly pears.
There are three houses and one studio flat:
A house that must be rented in its entirety
Two houses whose rooms can be rented separately; each one of them has 3 double bedrooms with bathroom
One studio flat for 2 or 3 people
Activities
Organically-grown vegetable garden
Tending animals
Making bread which is baked into a Moorish oven; taking part in the cheese production
Restoring antique furniture which is used to decorate the farmhouse
Craft works with esparto and string
We have got a new activity: Making bread!
Interesting Places
This house is located in a strategic area: 6 kilometres far from Huércal-Overa (nice city of the 15th century); it is near the sea and towns like Vera (23 kilometres away),Mojácar, Turre and Cuevas de Almanzora ; it is also between two nature reserves: Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve (80 kilometres away) and Sierra María Nature Reserve and Los Velez Nature Reserve (40 kilometres away)
If you do not want to go very far, we recommend you to have a walk along the Guzmaina watercourse or the nearby steep riverbanks, with areas full of ancient olive trees. Interesting excursions to the nearby "Fossil hill" and to the Espejuelo Cave, on the Limaria hill, can be prepared
The river Aguas, which goes through Sorbas and Turre
in order to flow into Mojácar, shows some valleys and spots of wonderful beauty in its path, like "Barranco del Tesoro" (treasure steep riverbank) that is opposite the Karst Nature Reserve, near Sorbas. It is an exceptional landscape that is full of subterranean cavities (more than 600), which can be visited with a guide
It is located 6 kilometres far from Huércal-Overa; 5 kilometres far from the main road
You have to leave the main road at the exit 553 (Huércal-Overa, Sta. María de Nieva, Taberno) and at once, take the road towards Taberno (18 kilometres)
The exit is on the bridge; 400 metres after seeing the road sign saying "Taberno 13 km.", take an asphalted path to the right, where there is another sign saying "Agroturismo"
About 200 metres away, you will find the house which has a roof car park
If you do not have any vehicle, you can make use of the bus service Almería -Barcelona, which will drive you up to Huércal-Overa
We discovered this wonderful accomodation in Andalucia on the internet at home in Sweden and spent some days here in May.
The lovingly restored buildings and beautiful garden inspire calm and feelings of harmony. There are plenty of special places where you can relax in the landscaped gardens with its nice trees, flowers and veranda with its view over the mountains.. The owner, Lola made us feel completely at home and we hope to return again soon.
